The Eagle Nebula
A.k.a. "M16" in the constellation Serpens. Also known as The Star Queen Nebula. The first recorded observation was in 1746 by PL de Cheseaux. Charles Messier observed it in 1764 and noted more than just a grouping of stars, there was also some nebulosity. This photo is a one hour exposure on Kodak PPF 400 film at f7.5, taken in cental Oregon during July of 2002
